  3. A well-kept, clean, quiet and friendly place to spend a few nights. Good, varied breakfasts (I didn’t try the rather Western menu fare) and helpful staff make this an excellent retreat from the bustle and din of the city.

A location four minutes from Prado Metro station makes this an excellent place to come and go from as you tour this extensive city, particularly at night when you might not like to be wandering the streets for long.

    Highly recommended.

  4. I’m spending the last of my four nights at 61Prado, adding this one when I had the opportunity to.

Staff are friendly and helpful, patient and calm when a visitor is rather flustered about travel plans, and always polite.

I was offered a room smaller than normal here, but the bed was in good condition (perhaps the most important factor in my hotel decisions), all basic facilities were available, including a good wi-fi connection, and the bathroom was clean and well maintained. Because of the general, attention to security in the place, I’ve never felt any likelihood of my valuables going missing.

Breakfast (served from six to twelve noon) is cooked in front of you and with enough choice to please everyone I’ve seen here – and is well tailored to the kind of guests in this Colombian business attending also to visitors from abroad. The evening menu looks good, too, although I’ve made other plans on this visit.

    Highly recommended.

I had a very pleasant stay at Prado61. Very quiet and very comfortable and the location was very good. Staff were also very friendly. The hotel punches above its weight in value for money. If you are looking for something more than a backpackers but are on a budget then I would thoroughly recommend Prado61 for a friendlier, more intimate stay at a much more competitive price than any of the big chain hotels.

We LOVE 61 Prado. We first stayed here back in January for a week and loved it so much have returned no less than 4 times, and with friends. The food is fabulous, I challenge you to find a better or more economical steak in Medellin. The staff are excellent. The ladies in the kitchen even learnt how to make poached eggs to satisfy my husband’s cravings. I can not say enough good things about Lucas and his entire operation. Even the location is perfect, just a couple of blocks from the metro from where you can get everywhere. The neighbourhood is safe and friendly, tested many times on early morning walks around the very pretty Prado streets and also a couple of late evening walks home from the theatre. The other great thing about Prado is all of the interesting people we have met there. The dinig area is pretty intimate so inevitably you end up chatting with teh folk at the next table sharing knowledge and information. Best advice we ever took was doing the Real City Tour of Medellin it’s free and the two young guys that lead it, Pablo and Hernan are the seriously the best tour guides I have come accross. Compeletly changed our experience of the entire city so much so that we are still looking for a way to live there.

  8. I stayed at 61Prado for 8 nights in August. I will have to say that it is the best value option I have found for hotel stays in Medellin. The nights were really quiet and the ambiance was excellent with the low dimming light and candles. All the rooms are spread out on three floors so you don’t usually run into other guests except in the mornings for a breakfast or heading out to explore the city. The fully equipped kitchen is shared by the guests. I had laundry done on site by the staff. There are excellent cafes and street food vendors with great hours within a two block area – good for a quick bite or an evening meal before heading in or out of the hotel. There is also a large grocery store 3 blocks away. My room had a flat screen television with full cable and fast wireless Internet. The neighborhood is an older barrio with many businesses close-by including clinics and hospitals. I felt very safe both day and night. The hotel is conveniently located about 7 blocks to Parque Bolivar and about 4 blocks walking distance to the Metro – one of the best reasons to select 61Prado. You can get on the Metro and travel all over the city easily and you are close to downtown and Plaza Botero- one Metro stop away!
It is important to note that this hotel is not a party hotel or for rowdy or seedy guests. 61Prado is quite affordable, clean and a good value. I will stay there again.

  16. I stayed for 2 weeks at the end of the year 2011. My entire stay was very pleasant. It is a very nice place. It is located a couple of blocks from the Prado metro station and close to downtown. The place is very charming and cozy. It is kept very clean. The rooms are spacious, very nice furnished and kept clean. Very good WiFi service as well as cable TV and a plasma screen. The staff is extremely friendly and really makes you feel at home.

  17. Hi, I am from Germany/Brazil and I stayed for 9 nights in November 2011 and I loved this place. A European-kind of design hotel in the middle of bubbly Medellin. When I first arrived by taxi I thought the address must be wrong since from outside it looks like a normal house. But then when you go inside you enter a different world. I arrived at night. Candles in glass vases, beautiful illumination at the walls, stylish flowers – it has something of a French chateau feeling to it. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast for EUR 2,50 is served like in a Michelin star restaurant. The room I had was large and had warm water. The double beds fit tall people like me – my feet were NOT hanging out of the bed! WIFI is available all across the hotel. For EUR 2,50 they washed and ironed around 15 pieces of clothes. The location of the guesthouse is good – the Metro is just five min walking distance and great attractions like the Botanical Garden, the Planetarium, the technological park are just two metro stations (or a 20 min interesting walk) away. If you are looking for STYLE and FRIENDLY STAFF this is the place to stay in Medellin. When I was here the price of a room was around EUR 20. Thanks, Diana and all the other staff!

  18. I stayed at 61Prado for a few nights in June 2011 and I know I won’t ever have to look for a different place to stay when I’m back in Medellin. All the staff are extremely nice and helped me tremendously with my very poor Spanish. They make the place what it really is: a real guesthouse, not a hostel or a hotel. I’m sure you’ve heard the cliche “home away from home” too many times already, but that’s what the place was for me. Very nice, spacious, clean rooms, fantastic bathrooms en suite, excellent value for your money, delicious brekkie, well equipped kitchen where you can make your own meals, free Internet… Estupendo!

  19. 61Prado is a wonderful place to stay at and enjoy the best of Medellin !!
i strongly recommend staying here. It’s a very pleasant, clean, comfortable and enjoyable guest house. It’s staff is gracious, helpful, hospitable and so friendly !! Centrally located and within a stone throw to the Metro, buses, and most spots in town. The guest rooms are spacious, quiet, private and very clean. I am definitely coming back and my visit to Medellin was so much more enjoyable because of Diana, Ofelia and everybody else at 61Prado !!

  21. Nick, Nancy & Ethan says:

My family and I stayed at 61 Prado House in January 2010. We loved this place! Luke is a very nice guy and very accommodating. We are going back to Medellin in January and we will definitely be staying at 61 Prado guesthouse again. The house is very close to downtown Medellin and the Metro. The house has a kitchen available in which you can prepare your meals and the rooms are clean and spacious.

Looking forward to staying here again.

If you’re looking for a place off the beaten path, look no further. 61Prado is the place. I’ve stayed in Poblado twice before and wanted something different. What a pleasant surprise. Barrio Prado Centro may have seen better days, but it seems there may be somewhat of a revival taking place (IMO). I instantly fell in love with both the neighborhood and hotel. The hotel is spacious, light, safe, clean, private and friendly. Amenities include free internet, kitchen use, laundry service, breakfast (6,000 COP), rooftop views, and 24hr entry. The staff is pleasant and professional. The owner, Diana is highly competent and available around the clock and Ofelia, the cleaning woman, is a true sweetheart and at your service. The hotel is conveniently located about a 5 minute walk from Prado Metro. If you explore the neighborhood you’ll find tree-lined streets, 1920s era mansions, grocery stores, restaurants, an art gallery, a clothing store (CasaPrado), clinics, old-folk homes and many other hidden gems. It can be a little rough around the edges, so safety first. I recommend taking a taxi at night 😉 If you’re looking for an alternative to Poblado and Laureles, I highly recommend 61Prado.

I stayed at Prado Guesthouse just after Luc had opened the place, at the time I think he only had 6-8 rooms, of which I heard no complaints from anyone that I met there. The place is a beautiful house with a bunch of well styled rooms. Very nice wooden furniture, nice flooring and the bathrooms are something you won’t find in many Colombian hostels, or even budget hotels. I’ve stayed in at least 4-5 different places in Medellin, but this place really felt like home for almost 3 weeks for me. You’ll have your own key, come and go when you want, there’s always cold drinks available, kitchen, a wonderful cleaning lady who NEVER seems to stop cleaning, so the place is spotless, and she’s just about one of the nicest people ever. In your room you’ll be able to hang clothes, which is so homey and nice, which is rare again in hostels, great shower, toilet…WITH A SEAT (another rarety in many Colombian places) and laundry service, which can cost an arm and a leg outside. 5 minutes walk at most from the metro, the area is perfectly safe, there’s a couple corner stores nearby too if you need anything.

  25. There is only one place to be besides staying at my sailing yacht…61prado is The Place in Medellin.

  26. After a stay for a couple of days in a relative expensive hostel in Bogota (50.000 CPS) with no warm water, I´ve changed to a hostel where I spent the nights in a dorm with 6 beds ( actually crowded, narrow and dark bedroom and you could smell the snoring beer barrels aside – hey I am not complaining, just some facts!) for 20.000 CPS, I left for Medellin. When I arrived at the 61 Prado – hey guys what a relive; almost to good to believe it: For 20.000 CPS Luc, the owner of the place, gave me a huge room on 2nd floor. A very nice styled room with a double bed (real good matrazes, unbelievable) private bathroom with shower, TV and free wireless Internet access! I felt like arriving in heaven. From the teracce you have a very beautiful view on that part of Medellin. The kitchen is also spacious and offers everything you need for preparing and cooking meals. People are always friendly and the location of the 61 Prado is very interesting to stroll around, especially if you appreciate architecture. The ten days I spent there was such a good experience. I am planing to go to Medellin in February 2010 again, guess where I am going to stay again; yeah it´ll be the 61 Prado for sure. If you´re going to Medellin and you are looking for a place to stay, don´t search any further, go to the 61 Prado that´s the place to be!
